

Elizabeth Jean Welch, affectionately known as Betty, passed away on August 12, 2024. Born to William and Mae Rogers on January 31, 1932, in Wilkes-Barre, PA, she was a beacon of light and warmth to all who knew her.
Betty’s love extended to her children: Bill (Karen) Welch, Susan Sheldrake, Sandy Levine, and Sherry (Tim) Davis. They remember her as a loving mother, always ready with a comforting word or a helping hand. Her grandchildren—Kristen (Todd), James (Missy), Billy, Adam, Lauren, Rachel, Alec, and Jake—and her great-grandchildren—Christopher, Kaitlyn, TJ, Wesley, Natalie, Emily, Parker, and Camden—will carry on her legacy of love, kindness, and joy.
Betty was predeceased by her beloved grandson, Zach, and her dear sister, Vi. She shared a special bond with Vi’s sons: Terry, Jeff, Tom, and David. Her memory will be cherished by her children, grandchildren, great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and her best friend, Carol.
Betty dedicated over 30 years of her life to nursing. She spent time bowling, playing cards, watching game shows, and solving jigsaw puzzles. She loved watching football and was a passionate Washington Redskins fan. Betty cherished family gatherings, holidays, and never forgot a birthday.
Friends and family are invited to a viewing on Friday, August 23, from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m., and a memorial service on Saturday, August 24, at 12:00 p.m. These services will be held at Murphy’s Funeral Home, located at 1102 W. Broad St., Falls Church, VA 22046. Following the service, Betty will be laid to rest at National Memorial Cemetery. Betty’s life was a testament to the beauty of a life well-lived, the lives she touched, and the love she shared. She was the heart and soul of her family, and while her presence will be deeply missed, her legacy will continue to bloom in the hearts of those she leaves behind.
