
He was born to the late Emory William Swink, Sr. and Eleanor V. Robinson, February 3, 1934, in Washington, D.C. Emory, Jr. graduated from Chamberlain Vocational School in 1953 and secured a license to Barber. He was married to the late Doris Swink.
In 1958, Emory opened Cherrydale Barber Shop, which he owned and operated, cutting hair for over 40 years in the Cherrydale neighborhood of Arlington, VA. Although retiring at 70, he continued to cut his loyal clients’ hair at minimal or no cost to them in his home, theirs, or even in the local nursing home. Emory was an avid bowler and served on many leagues over the years. He enjoyed bowling, as well as trout fishing, and spending time with his family and friends.
Emory is survived by his son, Emory W. Swink, III, of Sterling, VA; his two grandchildren, Kelly K. Welch and Ryan P. Swink; his 3 great-grandchildren Kaleigh, Cadence, and Matthew, and a 4th on the way. He is also survived by his siblings, George Swink and June Ferguson.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday, March 5, 2014, at 11am with a chapel service at 1pm at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA. Burial to follow at National Memorial Park, Falls Church, VA.
