

December 25, 2020 due to complications from Parkinson’s. He and his
wife, Jacqueline, celebrated 65 years of marriage on Thanksgiving Day.
In addition to being a devoted husband to Jacqueline, he was a loving
father to Frederick, Jr. (deceased), Catherine Fallin (Mark), John (Kim),
Theodore, Mary Pat Rodenhouse (WJ), and Stephen (Hasina). “Pops” was
a dedicated grandfather to Shawn, Dayna, Phillip, Lauren, Bryan, Teddy,
Emily, Jayce, Tav, Gabriella, Walter, Thomas, Andrew, Matthew, Daniella,
Dominic, Zackary and great grandfather to Aidan. He was a loving brother
to Marie (deceased), Virginia (deceased), Robert, Thomas (deceased) and
Nancy.
Fritz was born in Rochester, NY, where he attended The Aquinas Institute.
He was an active alumnus, participating in fundraising and capital
improvement projects for the institute. With his wife, Jackie, the Hafner’s
established two scholarship programs for students in need of financial
assistance. He served as a member of The Aquinas Foundation Committee
and in 2004 was given the Distinguished Alumni Award. He exemplified the
Basilian philosophy of life: goodness, discipline and knowledge.
Fritz graduated from Assumption College in Windsor, Ontario, Canada with
a degree in psychology. He proudly served two years as a 2nd Lieutenant
in the US Air Force during the Korean War.
His business career began in the early 1950s as a salesman for the
Burroughs Corporation where he became known for his ability to build and
sustain business relationships. In 1960, he moved the family to Virginia
after accepting a job with Keller Publishing of Buffalo, NY, where he opened
up new business markets for the company in the mid-Atlantic region.
In 1982, Fritz founded Higher Education Publications, Inc., (HEP) and
began publishing the Higher Education Directory. He served as the
President and CEO leading with enthusiasm and integrity.
Fritz grew up with a deep faith that influenced and shaped his life, giving
him empathy and a strong desire to help others. He was a member of St.
Anthony Catholic Church for more than 50 years.
An avid skier and tennis player, he enjoyed traveling and socializing. Fritz
never met a stranger and was a dear friend to many.
A Mass of Christian burial will be held at 10 AM, Wednesday, December
30th, at St. Anthony of Padua Catholic Church, 3305 Glen Carlyn Rd., Falls
Church, VA. In lieu of flowers, please donate to a charity of your choice.
