

Born on August 17, 1946, in Wichita, Kansas, George was the beloved son of the late John C. Peterson and the late Evelyn “Deanie” Peterson. He graduated from Randolph-Macon Military Academy in 1964 and proudly enlisted in the United States Army, where he served his country with distinction for 20 years before receiving an honorable discharge in 1986.
Throughout his military career, George received training at Fort Benning (GA), and Aberdeen Proving Ground in Maryland. He was stationed in Korea, Okinawa, Fort Lewis (WA), Fort Knox (KY), Lebanon (PA), and Germany.
Following his military service, George transitioned to civilian life and managed movie theaters for 14 years before continuing his career at Cox Communications as a telephone representative.
George was preceded in death by his biological father, George Cummings; his father, John C. Peterson; his mother, Evelyn “Deanie” Peterson; and his two brothers, John A. Peterson (Bonnie) and Mark S. Peterson .
He is survived by his son, George Wilfred Peterson, Jr. of Largo, FL; his daughter, Angela Campos of Kansas City, MO; and his sister, Robyn Matus (David) of West Chester, PA; 4 grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren.
A devoted dog lover, George’s compassion extended to all animals, especially his canine companions. A service and interment at Arlington National Cemetery will be held at a later date, with details to be announced.
George will be remembered for his dedication to service, strong religious faith, love of family, and warm heart. He will be deeply missed.
