Gopal Krishan Khatri, 82, passed away peacefully on August 10, 2025, in his beloved Herndon, Virginia home, surrounded by love as he wished. Born on April 12, 1943, in India, Gopal lived a life defined by resilience, generosity, and deep devotion to his family.
After earning his degree in Mechanical Engineering, Gopal immigrated to the United States with determination and hope for a better future. His first job in this new country was as a bartender, an experience that showed both his humility and his drive. Before long, he found his professional path in finance and accounting, working at Rehab Corporation and Audio Visual Communications before joining Tricom Training Institute in Washington, D.C., where he spent 30 years as the Chief Executive Officer. Tricom’s mission to empower at-risk youth and help them lead with purpose was a cause that deeply aligned with Gopal’s own values of leadership and mentorship.
Gopal’s gifts extended far beyond his work. He was known for his unforgettable chicken and goat dishes, meals that brought people together and became treasured memories. He loved playing poker with his siblings, visiting the casino with Meera, his beloved wife of 51 years, and welcoming friends and family into his home with warmth and generosity.
Of all his many joys, nothing compared to the time he spent with his grandchildren—Jaiya, Anuj, Riya, Divya, Eva, Kai, and Keiran—who knew him for his boundless love, playful spirit, and steady presence. He embraced life’s simple pleasures: cooking, sharing a meal and a beer with ice and lime, playing cards, ending the evening with Jeopardy!, or starting the day with coffee and golden oldies.
Gopal is survived by his loving wife, Meera; daughters Anamika and her husband, Vineet Dua; Rashmi Khatri and her companion Tim Newland; and Sapna and her husband, Jonathan Hencinski. He also leaves behind his adoring brothers and sisters, and many nieces and nephews whose lives he touched deeply.
Those who knew Gopal remember his kind heart, quick wit, and unwavering generosity. His legacy will live on in the laughter of his grandchildren, the meals shared in his honor, and the countless lives made warmer by his presence. And for all who were blessed to know him, his love will remain a guiding light for years to come.
Funeral services will be held on Sunday August 17th at the National Funeral Home and Memorial Park. At 10am we invite family to attend the Hindu Ceremony of Final Rites; Memorial Service will begin at 11am.
