

He was born September 23,1922 in Brooklyn, New York and served with the U.S. Navy in the SeaBees. Stationed in Okinawa, he saw combat from the invasion until Japanese surrender.
He was graduated from the University of Texas with a degree in Architectural Engineering in 1949. He married Margie Wyatt upon his enlistment and together they moved to Germany after the war while Harry was involved in the reconstruction of Germany and the construction of U.S. military hospital in Wiesbaden, Germany; as well as facilities in North Africa, Turkey, Greece, and Europe. They returned to the United States and Harry accepted a position in OMB during the revitalization of Washington, DC in the 1960's before accepting a position at the Bureau of Standards (now N.I.S.T.) retiring as Deputy Director in 1980.
He was preceded in death by his wife in 1991. He is survived by his daughters Megan Thompson and Peter McKenna, Andrea and Chip Greenfeld, his grandchildren Alex, Ben, Alicia, Will and Jackie, as well as nieces and nephews. He is also surved by Barbara May Thompson from a recent second marriage.
Family and friends are invited to a time of visitation on Tuesday, October 2, 2012 between 6:00 p.m. and 8:00 p.m. at the Colonial Funeral Home, 201 Edwards Ferry Rd NE, Leesburg, VA 20176. A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, October 3, 2012 starting at 11:00 a.m. at the Church of Christ in Falls Church, VA. Burial will follow in the National Memorial Park Cemetery at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers memorial donations can be made sent to Camp WAMAVA at the Church of Christ in c/o Perry May, 6210 Stoneham Lane, McLean, VA 22101.
