Helen Gounley Verrey

Helen G. Verrey, age 74, of Falls Church, VA passed away on August 12, 2018. Helen was born on August 5, 1944 to Martin Sr. and Catherine Gounley in Woodbury, New Jersey. She attended nursing school in Philadelphia, and worked in San Francisco where she met Raymond, whom she married on February 14, 1970. Helen and Ray moved to Falls Church, VA where they raised their two children. In addition to nursing, Helen was a true “Renaissance Woman” who was a master at gardening, carpentry and woodworking, miniature craftsmanship, Den mother, Brownie and Girl scout leader, swim team president, PTA president, and generally amazing mother schlepping her kids to sports, band, and orchestra practices and events. Helen is survived by her children, Gretchen Eileen Verrey and Raymond Martin Verrey (Randall Tucker); her brother, Martin Gounley, Jr; and her brother-in-law Tom Davies and niece Cathe. She was preceded in death by her husband, Raymond Townsend Verrey, parents Martin Sr and Catherine Gounley, and sister Irene Davies. A Memorial gathering will be held on Saturday, August 18, 2018 from 3 PM until time of Memorial service at 4 PM at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 W. Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046. A reception will be held after the service (approximately 6pm) at Ireland's Four Provinces, 105 W. Broad Street, Falls Church, VA 22046.
