

Henry Celler Alberts, born Aug. 23, 1927, passed away May 7, 2015. Dr. Alberts, the grand nephew of longtime N.Y. congressman Emanuel Celler was born in N.Y.C. and was a child musical prodigy giving piano concerts when he was 7, 8 and 9 years old. After joining the U.S. Navy at 17 to serve in World War II, he switched to science, graduating from Queens College with a BS in Math and Physics. He then received an M.S. from the Univ. of Delaware and a PhD from City College, London, England. Dr. Alberts worked on scientific projects for the U.S Government and Government Contractors.
He spent 6 years a s a consultant at Stanford Research Institute working with the U.S Army in California and Germany and with Swedish industry in Stockholm. He returned to work with the federal government and retired from the Department of Defense. As a retiree he taught at the University of Maryland, University College where he received the Stanley J. Drazek Teaching Excellence Award.
Dr. Alberts was married for 65 years to his surviving spouse Renee Miller Alberts and father of 4 daughters Jo Lee Lord, Nina Chainley, Hope Megonigal and Jody Naleppa. There are 11 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.
The schedule for an Old Post Chapel funeral service and inurnment at Arlington National Cemetery will be announced on a future date.
