
James Everett Matthews, 77, of Wilmington, NC and formerly Vienna, VA, passed away on September 13, 2020. Jim was born on May 12, 1943 to Sallie Fuller Farrow and Everett Alfred Matthews in the District of Columbia. After graduating from Washington & Lee High School in 1961, he went on to study Applied Sciences at Northern Virginia Community College and Jacksonville University. Jim established a very successful Real Estate Appraising Business in which he was self-employed, serving Northern Virginia for over 30 years. During middle school at Stratford Junior High, he met his one and only true love Jane Crunkleton, they wed in 1966 and had 2 children, Jeffrey Lawrence and Jennifer May. In his free time, Jim enjoyed boating the Potomac River in his Bayliner, collecting antique and historical firearms and caring for their horses. After retiring in 2005, Jim spent his time working on the beautification of their Wilmington home, collecting seashells from the Carolina shores and making his famous seashell shadow boxes for all friends and family who came to visit. Jim was predeceased by his father Everett, wife Jane and sister Sue. He is survived by his mother Sallie, sister Becky, son Jeff (Valerie), daughter Jennifer (Chris) and grandchildren Owen and Emberly.
Jane Lucille Crunkleton, 72, of Wilmington, NC and formerly Vienna, VA, passed away on November 9, 2016. Jane was born on February 25, 1944 to May Orlena Keller and John Lawrence Crunkleton. After graduating from Washington & Lee High School in 1961, she went on to study Education at Catawba College and then received her Masters degree from The George Washington University. With her outstanding college education, Jane became a college professor at Strayer University in D.C. for 10 years. During middle school at Stratford Junior High she met Jimmy, they wed in 1966 and had 2 children, Jeffrey Lawrence and Jennifer May. In her younger years, Jane loved riding horses, boating with Jimmy, volunteering with children’s groups at Vienna Presbyterian Church, Harbor United Methodist Church and Adapted Aquatics, traveling to Bermuda and Big Meadows Lodge in the Shenandoah Mountains. Jane was predeceased by her father John, mother May, and brother Glen.
A joint service will be held on Saturday, August 21, 2021 at 10:30am at National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA. Luncheon to follow at the Marriott Hotel Falls Church. Please join us to share your fondest memories.
