Joan Powell

On October 14, 2021 at Inova Fairfax Hospital, Joan D. Powell, 88, of Annandale, VA, passed away. After surviving Polio at the age of four, Joan went on to marry twice and have four children. She retired from Virginia Hospital Center formerly Arlington Hospital after 39 years of employment.

She is survived by daughter Teresa M. Phillips of Annandale, VA and son David P. Nicholas of Annandale, VA., seven grandchildren, 12 great-grandchildren and four great-great grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her husband Lauris H. Powell, mother Thelma L. Gawen, father Arthur W. Gawen, sister Virginia L. Lumsden, daughters Pamela L. Pierce and Katherine M. Whitten.

Joan was loved by countless other family and friends. A Celebration of Life and Memorial will be held on Tuesday, October 26, at 11:00 a.m. at National Funeral Home 7482 Lee Hwy, Falls Church, VA. Interment to follow directly at National Memorial Park. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to either of these organizations, March of Dimes-marchofdimes.org, or Animal Welfare League of Arlington-www.awla.org
