He was born to George and Mary Argiropoulos on October 3, 1950, in Washington, D.C. John graduated from Charles W. Woodward High School in 1968 and then enlisted in the U.S. Army. He proudly served in the Vietnam War between 1969 and 1971, finishing an extended 17-month tour of duty when he was just 20 years old. In 1974, after six years of service, John enrolled in classes at the University of Virginia—made possible by the GI Bill. Majoring in Classical Greek, he received a B.A., with distinction, in 1978.
In 1979, John started his roofing business, Georgetown Roofing, Inc., to which he dedicated the next 36 years of his life. The holder of multiple trade-related patents, John would find a solution to problems that constantly stumped others in the industry—even if it meant he had to create it. John was a Vietnam veteran, UVA graduate, classics scholar, business owner, roofing contractor, and inventor—but he prided himself most on his work in the roofing industry and the reputation of his company. Even when his health was no longer on his side, John was still climbing up 30-foot ladders to confirm the integrity of his roofs.
John is survived by his two children, John and Demetria Argiropoulos, and his German Shepherd, Max. An inurnment service will be held at Arlington National Cemetery; service details (with date, time, and location) are still pending at this time.
