John was a native northern Virginian and was proud of that. He loved to reminisce about how “it was in my day” to everyone. He was born to Harry and Catherine (Brown) April 28, 1947, the first son and the fourth of six children. John graduated from St. Frances College in Loretto PA.
In 1987, he married Betty (Ashbrook) and together they had three beautiful children. Charles, Casey and Travis. His life was all about his family. Nothing made him happier than to see them happy, loving and living life to the fullest.
John was an avid baseball lover. His loved the Yankees and would talk baseball with everyone. He would to try to turn a non baseball fan into fans. John worked for many years with his nephew Al Leach. Al was like a son to John. He loved to work and was always willing to help anyone in need.
Besides his immediate family, John was survived by his siblings, several nieces and nephews. John has so many friends that have reached out to share their memories. Memories that make us so happy. It goes without saying he will be greatly missed. We are getting by remembering his love, his generosity, kindness, smile, his silliness, his ability to forgive and give without expecting anything in return.
Once the state is open, we will have a celebration of John’s life so we can all openly share our love and stories of him. We hope everyone who knew and loved him will be there. Fond memories and condolences may be left at murphyfuneralhomes.com
