I will miss my big brother.  So many childhood memories have flooded back to me.  We were lucky to have such loving parents.  Mother was always the one to take Nick to Emergency as Dad would faint at the sight of blood; like the time a football bench fell over on his toe, or the time Nick got bit by a fish and Mother had to keep his arm in a bucket of water to dilute out the blood poisoning, and change the water every hour throughout the night, while Nick slept!  Love to you all and thank you for taking such good care of Nicky.  Prayers for my handsome, sweet brother.  Gail Buehler

I want to extend my deepest sympathy to Chris and to Nick’s entire family.  I had the pleasure of working with Nick at DLA.  He was always so very pleasant and positive.  I reflect back on a trip my wife and I took to Nova Scotia.  We arranged it almost entirely based on information Nick shared with me following his trip there!  He will be missed!!!

In 2015, I had the pleasure of interviewing Nick regarding his fishing exploits.  The interview lasted more than an hour, but it only took Nick a few minutes to realize that I knew very little about fishing. And so Nick patiently gave me a short course on the essentials of fishing. A week or so later, I received an envelope from Nick that contained a brief handwritten note as well as a shiny fishing hook from his tackle box. The tip of the hook was imbedded in an eraser that Nick had cut off from the top of a pencil. Nick intended the hook to be part of my continuing education---and he provided the eraser to make sure that I didn't suffer a self-inflicted wound during the process.  To me, the contents of the envelope reveal much of what we should remember about Nick. First, he was attentive to detail; every hook needed to have its own eraser. Second, Nick was an educator at heart and especially so when it came to fishing; he went to great lengths to help others learn. Third, Nick was a protector; he wanted to keep others safe and, above all, never wanted to do anything that would hurt someone. Finally and most definitively, for Nick, the water and the pursuit of fishing truly brought him close to heaven. "Fishing," he said, "is the whole experience, the birds, the sky and the entire environment." And now, Nick gets to view "the entire environment" from a heavenly perspective!

I want to express my heartfelt sympathy to Chris and the rest of the family upon Nick's passing.  I feel grateful for the opportunity I had to get to know him and those he cared about.  I looked forward to our reflexology sessions and count my experiences with him as a blessing in my own life.  Whenever I think of Nick, I will be able to remember  the time we spent together with fondness and gratitude.
