
He had an early spiritual foundation by way of House of Prayer Church of God in Christ in Alexandria, Virginia. He attended the Fairfax County Public School system. As a teen, he was employed as a salesman for the Washington Times Journal. He was a very talented musician, singer, writer, actor and artist and comedian and had a beautiful upbeat personality. He was a loving son, father, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
John was preceded in death by his father, Charles Meekins; maternal grandfather John Henderson Jr., paternal grandparents Henry and Nezzie Meekins; two siblings: brother Ricky McDonald and sister Kristen Johnson-Harris.
He leaves to cherish his memory, his mother Patricia Henderson-Akers, Alexandria, VA; maternal grandmother, Ruth Stewart, Norfolk, VA; seven loving children: Khalil Lane, Dale City; Jordan Garcia, Alexandria, VA; Zykell Berry, Alexandria, VA; DeShawn Henderson, Alexandria, VA; Rejohnay Henderson, Woodbridge, VA; Royal Henderson, Alexandria, VA; and Alia Henderson, New Jersey.
He is also survive by four brothers: Charles McDonald, Philadelphia, PA; Capt. Kirk Shands (Marla), Raleigh, NC; Jonathan Montgomery, Alexandria, VA; and Dayton Wellington, Augusta, GA. Five sisters: Mariam Meekins, Washington, DC; Queen Meekins, Capital Heights, MD; Margaret McNeill (Dwyane), Dale City, VA; Kimberly Shands (Eric), Dale City, VA; Dr. LaTania Akers-White (Cheo), Richmond, VA. One uncle: Robert Meekins (Betty), Columbia, SC. Five aunts: Gwendolyn Babins, Alexandria, VA; Marquita Lillard, Florida; Nettie Dixon, Jacksonville, NC; Flora Drye and Brenda Richardson both of Fayetteville, NC and a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends, far too many to name.
