Just recently heard of John's passing.
We have traded family history these
past few years, and John was quick to
share his genealogy expertise with me.
Many times I returned home from work to
find John's car in the driveway and
John in the house. My condolences to
Jolanta and Julianna- you still have
the memories. An Illinois cousin-

So sorry to hear of John's death. He was a friend for many years and we had traveled to Australia together in the early 1990's. We met in college at ASU and hiked many trails with the ASU OUting Club. Happy trails my friend. My heart goes out to his beautiful wife Jolanta and daughter Julianna. Tessa Sweepe from Arizona

No, no...not John! Something in me keeps wanting to say, "Come back here! Where are you going in such a hurry?" But then he always was ahead of his time. He did it all! He saw everything. It's just that those of us who are a bit slower would like to have mingled awhile longer in the warmth of his personality and generous spirit. How many times he saved me from a computer disaster just in the nick of time! He helped ground my business from the beginning with his wisdom and technical skills. John accomplished so much in his 56 years including eventually having a beautiful wife and daughter. I'm eternally grateful for his kindness.  Miss him so much!

I only just learned of John's passing and was very saddened by the news of such a loss.  We only met at a few family gatherings but to meet John was to like him!  Our sympathy and prayers to those left behind.  God Bless.

My deepest condolences go out to John's family and to those who have known him over the years.  He was a good friend, fellow traveler and someone with shared values.   When I lived in the Washington DC area earlier, and from my many return visits to the area, I enjoyed our times together talking, comparing travel notes, exchanging impressions, and sharing good times.  As an active member of the Potomac Backpacking Club, I got to know John from many of the trips this club did in the 80s and 90s.  I also fondly remember our travel adventures to Australia, another trip to Guatemala and Mexico, yet another jaunt to Puerto Rico, as well as many of the other travel experiences I shared with John.  He left us way too soon, and already is missed.

John,
Thank you for searching and opening a new window in my life.  Your visits were always fun and Juliana only added to the good times in recent years.  Although your journey continues, my heart will always hold fast to your blessed memory.

My thoughts and prayers for all left behind.  I will miss his humor and his thoughtful insights as well as his ability to seek out elusive genealogical information on our mutual relatives. I just heard the sad news today in my daughter's school. I could not believe it. John was a good man and funny. My great condolences to his family, Juliana great friend of my daughter, and Mrs. Melton.

I was sad to hear about John's death.  He helped me these last five years with genealogical work on relatives in the Central Illinois area.  He was so helpful and gla to share any information he had with others.  His work will be of help to future generations

If I had to describe John in two words, I would say that he was a Rennaissance man; he was a master at everything. John was never afraid to tackle any project, no matter how difficult it was. It was a joy working with him in the field of genealogy. His surprise visits at our home were always a bright spot in our lives. Thank you, John, for all you've done for us and for all family researchers!

John and I worked together on genealogy research for 5 or 6 years, until just before he died.  He did a lot of research in the area of Peoria County, Illinois where he had family.  We worked together on Find-A-Grave memorials with him doing all the heavy lifting of walking & photographing the local cemeteries and me checking out and fleshing out his work with my own research.  He visited my wife & I in Peoria, IL several times and I had come to think of him as a personal friend as well as professional partner.  I'll miss him a great deal, as will everyone who does genealogy research in central Illinois.

John Melton was one of the finest men I've ever known. Witty, funny, always seemed happy no matter what. Was very great on finding his ancestors and his wiliness to help others in their quest to find theirs was fantastic. John will not only be missed by his wonderful loving family but all so much by the Genealogy world with all of his contributions he has made and the people he has touched through out time. I miss him already. John, My daughter & I truly enjoyed our time with you, the hunts with you, your family reunion. I just wish there could of been more. May you rest in peace and may God Bless your family & thank you for being my Genealogy friend.

I was so sorry to hear of John's passing - I am a genealogy friend of his, and I've never known anyone who worked harder, or shared his research, more freely than John.  I enjoyed his witty sense of humor.  He was a good person, and a good friend.  My deepest condolences to his family.

“As a previous co-worker, I have missed John’s dry wit, wise cracks, steel-trap mind, and traveling tips. He was a whiz on the computer. Where ever there was food, John was there. He would work into the wee hours with Maxine and I on proposals. He was always happy to offer a ride. He helped people build  their colorful family trees. I trust he did one for his own family.

John was a wonderful friend of mine for more than 25 years.  His driving trips were legendary, yet perhaps his creative Christmas cards summed him up the best: when every year he would seek out a unique location to pose for a photo of him in his Santa suit! 
Dear John, thanks for the many fun times we had exploring places and people (you loved going to new places and meeting new people!).  
May our collective fond memories of you live on forever.

John was indeed an adventurer.  Together we backpacked, explored Alaska,  traveled above the Arctic Circle in Canada, saw the northern lights, canoed, kayaked, attended each other’s weddings, and discussed genealogy.  Through it all, John remained a true friend.  I will miss him.

John was a wonderful friend and neighbor.  I consider myself blessed to have known him.  I express my deepest condolences to his family in this difficult time.
