I'm so grateful to have known John during the time I nannied for the twins. I just found out and I'm so heartbroken. I have life-long memories of John. His humor and story-telling are unmatched by anyone I know. Christie, JP, and Maria, you are forever in my heart. 

John taught me to always put Grey Poupon in tuna fish salad so that it wouldn't have too much Mayonaise.  He was always around when my daughter was an infant and over at Mary Lee's house, such a great guy.  Sincere sympathy to everyone.  I just can't imagine how great of a loss this is to his loved ones but pray the passage of time and strength from the Lord above helps in the days ahead.  Blessings!  Kim Johnson of Tampa, Florida.

I found out that John passed yesterday. I worked with John for a number of years.after those years we stayed in touch, as he worked at a local distributorship. Becoming a husband and father was something he took very seriously. He was a good-natured soul and was very funny. i will miss him and our debates about music and politics. Most of all we agreed on the things that mattered.. My deepest condolences to John's wife, children, parents, siblings, and others whose life he touched. Fly on Johnny Z.

I swam with and against my friend John my entire childhood.  Here are the fun things I remember (just a stream of memories and thoughts).  Hope it makes you smile in this time of loss.

The way he competed in the pool like waking up one morning to see how he CRUSHED the MCSL 100 fly Long Course record when he was 14.  

Learning how to wet sand one of Jack's cars with him so John could go to the Indy 500.

Getting snowed-in in Cincinnati after a swim meet and the fun we had at all the out of town meets together at Curl.

Going on double dates (see Susan O'Brien above for more info)

The way he loved his dog, Baron, and his crazy nicknames he had for everything like the Fairblower Fairmont station wagon he drove.

The way he was able to con Steve into letting us use his blue Camaro to go to swim practices so we could look cool.  Sorry for any damage, Steve!

His brother, Paul, adamantly against John driving his stick shift Cougar convertible (smart move, Paul!)

The way he made Mary Lee laugh when she was mad at him.

The way he made me laugh.  Every time I saw him.

John will truly be missed.  Although we didn't see you guys as much as we would have liked to,  I still consider John a great friend. I know I will think of him every day.  One of the funniest people I have ever met,  he was such a great guy.  The 5 years we lived in the same house are still some of the best times of my life.  Our sincere condolences to the entire family.
