
Hill, Ludmila Lillian Turan, formerly of Falls Church, passed away on Sunday, July 19, 2015. Beloved wife of the late Wellman (Bill) A. Hill; loving mother of Michael S. Hill (Sue); loving grandmother of Stephanie A. Hill and Elizabeth M. Hill and three great grandchildren; loving aunt of Susan Stanley (Jimmy), Christine Turan Mann Cochrane (Tom), and Doris Ragain (George), and numerous great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her beloved brother, Turner G. Turan, and sister-in-law, Mary C. Turan. The family will receive friends on Tuesday, July 21, 2015 at Murphy Funeral Home, 1102 West Broad Street, Falls Church from 6 until 8 p.m. Funeral service will be held on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 3022 Woodlawn Avenue, Falls Church. Interment will be at Oakwood Cemetery in Wilmington, IL on Saturday, July 25, 2015. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to Bethany House of Northern Virginia, Inc., 6121 Lincolnia Rd., Suite 303, Alexandria, VA 22312.
Born in Chicago, Lil was raised in central Illinois and graduated from Reed-Custer High School in Braidwood. In service to the war effort, she moved to Washington, DC, working for the Department of War beginning in 1941. She met and married Bill, the love of her life. She contracted tuberculosis during employment and was isolated in a sanitarium but regained her health thanks to the then new availability of antibiotics. An original member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, she served as the Church Secretary for a dozen years. She then restarted her Federal career and completed it working as the secretary to the admiral, U.S. Department of the Navy, Foreign Military Sales and Assistance Division. She and Bill traveled to Europe, New Zealand, North Africa, and throughout the United States. She was a resident of Falls Church and Northern Virginia from 1948 until her passing
