Mabel B. Jerabek was born March 19, 1922 in Vicksburg, Mississippi during the depression, the oldest daughter of George and Waheba Bodron. Raised in the South and with little exposure outside of Mississippi, she embarked on a life changing journey to Washington, DC in the summer of 1941 to become a “Government Girl.” Her father gave her 6 months there before she was expected to return home. Things did not go according to this plan. It was shortly thereafter that Mabel met Roy Jerabek, from Minnesota who also came to DC to work for the Federal Government. They married in the Lutheran Church of the Reformation on Capitol Hill on November 30, 1944. They became the parents of two sons, Douglas and Craig. Roy and Mabel were able to celebrate 64 wonderful years together. In April 1953 Roy and Mabel became the first owners of their new home at 2230 N. Tuckahoe St., Falls Church. As it turned out, it was the only home they purchased to live in. After leaving Government Service, to raise her children, Mabel returned to work as an executive secretary in 1967, and finally retired in the early 1980’s. After retirement, Mabel and Roy Frequently traveled to interesting places around the county and world, including multiple trips to Germany, Spain, Norway, and China. Mabel also enjoyed her bowling league with the neighborhood ladies, as well as playing in bridge clubs with many friends, and drinking Coca Cola. Roy and Mabel are the grandparents of four, and the great-grandparents of nine, and one great-great grandson.
