

Mandev Singh, a six decade resident of the Washington D.C. area died at the age of 81 on December 28, 2011. Mandev was born in Punjab, India, the son of the prominent poet, former Chief Minister of Punjab and longtime Member of Parliament, Giani Gurmukh Singh Musafir. He studied law at Khalsa College Jalandhar and at the George Washington University, graduating from the latter with an L.L.M. in International Law. After beginning his career with Indian governmental institutions in the United Kingdom and the U.S., Mandev spent 25 years as a Senior Legal Counsel at the World Bank in Washington D.C. before retiring in 1995. A competitive swimmer and avid tennis player in his youth, Mandev’s hobbies also included travel, bridge and spending time with his grandchildren. In addition to an active social life in his home community of Potomac, MD, Mandev often spent winters with his son’s family in California.
Mandev Singh is survived by his wife of 56 years, Kulwanti Singh and daughter Tina Singh, son Kuldev Singh MD of Stanford, CA and three grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Joginder Sant of Chandigarh, India, and brothers Paramdev Singh of Denver, CO and Sachdev (Baboo) Musafir of London, U.K. as well as their families.
