

Mildred Jennette Thorne, 88, of Vienna, VA went to heaven with Jesus to be reunited with loved ones on February 28, 2012 at Fairfax Hospital of complications from contracting the Norovirus.
Born August 15, 1923, in Raleigh, NC, she was the oldest daughter of the late Wallace Richard Jennette and Mamie Ormond Jennette. She survived her sister Helen Powell of Virginia Beach, VA and brother, Robert Jennette of Little Rock, Arkansas. She was valedictorian of Hugh Morson High School in Raleigh, NC, graduated from Bob Jones College in Cleveland, Tennessee and received a Bachelor’s of Education Degree with a cum laude achievement at Meredith College in Raleigh, NC. She received many awards for her musical accomplishment of piano.
Mildred married Milton Martelle Thorne Jr. in 1950 and was the mother of three children. She worked at the U.S. Department of Health, Education and Welfare for 41 years before retiring. She was an active bridge player at the Vienna Community Center located in Vienna, VA as well as a fierce bingo player at the Elks Lodge in Fairfax, VA.
Mildred is survived by her children: Chris M. Thorne, son, of Merrifield, VA; Terry S. Thorne, son and Mary Margaret, daughter-in-law of Vienna, VA; Diane J. Duke, daughter, and Mark, son-in-law of Clifton, VA; two grandchildren, Kathryn Jennette Thorne in Scotland and David Lawrence Thorne in Maryland.
