Patricia “Patti” Colevas died Sunday, April 19th 2026 in St Petersburg, Florida.
Born in Albany, New York on January 11, 1932, she spent most of her childhood in North Tonawanda, a suburb of Buffalo. After graduating from State University of New York, Patti relocated to the Washington, DC area where she began her professional life as a school teacher and later served in roles with the CIA and Group Health Association. During this time she met her husband of 59 years, Prokopes “Peter” Colevas; They were married on April 29, 1961.
Patti was a docent at the Smithsonian National Museum of American History for more than 40 years, where she developed particular expertise and interest in the First Ladies exhibition and the ceramics collection. She had a deep appreciation for history and enjoyed reading. She loved to travel and took many trips all over the world. She was an excellent seamstress and cherished vacations at the beach with immediate and extended family.
She is survived by her three children Gregory Speros Colevas (Anne), Alexander Dimitrios Colevas (Patti) and Eleni Colevas Shipe (Andy); eleven grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews.
Those wishing to celebrate her life are invited to join the family at Murphy Funeral Home at 1102 W Broad St, Falls Church, VA 22046 on Thursday, April 30th from 4:00 to 8:00 pm.
A funeral will be offered on Friday, May 1st, 2026 at 1:00 pm at St. James Catholic Church, Park Ave, Falls Church, VA 22046
Interment Cedar Hill Cemetery, 4111 Pennsylvania Ave, Suitland, MD 20746 on Saturday, May 2nd, 2026 at 10:00 am.
In lieu of flowers contributions may be made in her name to The Salvation Army.
