

On Tuesday, January 28, 2014, PAULA MAE JACOBS of Chevy Chase, Maryland, passed away peacefully at the age of 86. Devoted mother of Matthew Jacobs and his wife Caroline of Washington, DC, who were at her bedside at the time of her passing; loving grandmother of Matthew Jacobs, Jr. and his wife Elizabeth, of New York, NY and John Jacobs of Tampa, FL. She was predeceased by her mother, Belle Goldwyn, to whom she was exceptionally devoted; her father, Myron; as well as her loving brother, Philip. Mrs. Jacobs was raised in Brooklyn, NY, before moving to Washington, DC, where she was married to the artist and art director Joseph Jacobs for 17 years. Her marriage ended in divorce. She was fluent in both Spanish and French, and, during WWII, worked at the Foreign Officers' USO Foundation in New York City, where she met and conversed with French officers stationed in or visiting the US. While in Washington, she worked at the Spanish consulate, as well as the American University School of Business Administration, where she served as the Executive Assistant to the Dean of the Business School for many years. She was an amateur actress and appeared in several productions throughout Montgomery County, where she lived for over 40 years, including "Come Back Little Sheeba." She worked with decoupage and was an avid reader.
A graveside service will be held on Sunday, February 2, 2014 at 12 noon at King David Memorial Gardens Cemetery in Falls Church, VA. In lieu of flowers, contributions in her name may be made to the national Alzheimer's Association .
