Pearl “Penny” Krug passed away at the age of 102 on April 6, 2016 after a long, wonderful life of which the last 17+ years were at Goodwin House West. She was born in Brooklyn, NY to the late Bernard and Sarah Kiritz. She was the youngest of 4 children, Harriet, William & Harry, who predeceased her. She leaves behind her niece Sandra Krug of Branford, CT, and her great nephew Nicolas Kiritz of Washington, DC and. She is also survived by her nephew Stuart Kiritz of California, Chloe and Gabriel Kiritz of California, and Alexander Kiritz of California. She was predeceased by her nephew Norton Kiritz of California. She also leaves behind Cathleen Kiritz of California, Sally Kiritz of California and Rachel Krug, of CT.. She was predeceased by many longtime friends and leaves behind many others.
Penny graduated from Bushwich High School in Brooklyn and attended New York University and Maxwell Teacher’s Training College. In 1936 she moved to Washington, DC and worked for the U.S. Department of Agriculture. She was promoted to the position of legal secretary for the NLRB. She relocated to Philadelphia and returned 4 years later and took the position of office manager for the law firm of Becker, Maguire and Galland and worked there for 14 years. In 1961 she retired and became a freelance portrait artist, which she enjoyed for many years. She also was a longtime volunteer for the Falls Church
Democratic Party.
Penny enjoyed playing bridge, painting, classical music, swimming, exercising and volunteer work.
