Robert E. Moy, affectionately known as "Wild" Bill, Bob, Moe, Poppy, and simply Moy, passed away peacefully at his home in Alexandria, Virginia, on May 23, 2025, at the age of 88. Born on March 20, 1937 in Washington, DC, Robert lived a full, fearless, and unforgettable life marked by hard work, deep love for family, and a one-of-a-kind sense of humor.
In his early years, Moy dipped his toes in a variety of careers. Some of which included a cab driver, club manager, security officer, police officer, and K9 officer. He also served his country proudly in the United States Air-force and Army.
He owned several different businesses throughout the DMV area over the years, including a snack bar, pool hall, ice cream truck and thrift store, but his greatest professional pride came from the family owned security business, Alexandria Security Patrol (ASP) he built from the ground up with his beloved wife, Sandra, which they operated together for the past 40 years. Their partnership, in both life and business, was a true testament to devotion and perseverance.
He was a man of many passions — aside from binge watching old westerns and family feud, he was an avid fisherman, an animal lover with a soft spot for the unusual, including a pet opossum that was a regular patron of his snack bar, the local raccoons he hand fed (they knew the sound of his truck pulling up) he was also known to allow his goat and chickens in for a quick stroll around the house, when his wife wasn't around.
He was an excellent cook who passed some of his flavorful creations, down to his daughter April, along with his goofy sense of humor, and his eclectic collections. Moy collected everything from dust to guns. He had a deep respect for firearms, a value he instilled in his grandsons, Dalton and Colton, teaching them both marksmanship and the importance of responsibility.
Like most father's, he wasn't a man that was initially impressed with his daughters choice. It took quite some time, but he took Chris under his wing and molded him into the man he is today! During his final days he often referred to Chris as "You the man!"
Moy was a lifelong prankster and the life of the party in his younger years. He loved to make people laugh, and did so until the very end — always ready with a wisecrack, a story, or some of his signature “funny money,” which he always had readily available. Those who knew him well will smile remembering his humor and might still be wondering if he was really that crazy. (Yes, he really was — in the best way.)
He was a fighter — strong, courageous, hard-headed, and utterly unafraid. Moy lived on his own terms and left a legacy of laughter, resilience, and unforgettable moments.
He is survived by his loving wife of 50 years, Sandra; his devoted daughter, April, and her life partner (Chris) and two cherished grandsons, Dalton and Colton Williams. He also leaves behind his caring sister, Virginia E. Patton (Johnny), and a host of nieces and nephews who adored him.
He is also survived by his children Robert Moy, Jr. Ronnie Moy, and Nancy Pyles and their children. As well as his surrogate grandkids, Dylan McGann, and Joshua Moser
Moy was preceded in death by his parents, Percy E. Moy, Sr. and Rose H. Moy, and his siblings, Percy E. Moy, Jr., Wallace E. Moy, and Grace E. Moy.
He was a lifelong member of the American Legion and The Elks lodge.
