My Aunt Ruth has been a part of me and a part of my life for as long as I have been alive.
She has always been a second mom to me as she has to all of her nephews and nieces and grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She love children, she loved adventures, she loved traveling, and yes she loved life!  I forever remember getting cards from her wherever she was and always on my birthday. She was there at my Bris, my Bar Mitzvah, my wedding and my son's Bris.
From my earliest memories were Aunt Ruth taking us in her Jeep to ford Rock Creek Park's streams.  To staying summer week's at her home on Noyes Drive and listening to the trains go by and Champ chase cars.
She invited me to my first Bar Mitzvah(Frank's) and my first High School graduation at Blair(Frank's) and my first Redskins football game with Uncle Joe.

Memories go flashing by but she was always around and just a phone call away.  When I took my future wife, also named Ruth Ann, to meet my mom in Florida, Aunt Ruth was there.  When my son was finally born, Aunt Ruth was there to play with him every weekend as only an Aunt or Grand Mother could and since both my parents were gone and his other Grand Parents were in Michigan she filled in those first five years.  She has been a part of my life and many others for so many years, I thought she would live forever.  But, time runs out on all of us.  But, as long as I live and my son lives, memories of Aunt Ruth and her love of children, love of adventure, travel, pictures and zest for life will live in our hearts always.
Always in our hearts!

It was a beautiful, sunny Sunday afternoon, one day in the 1950's. My Aunt Ruth, knowing that her sister Marion needed some rest from cooking and caring for her husband Oscar and her three children, Cecile, Linda (me) and Stevie, asked if she could make us an early supper—to give our mother some time to herself. I always loved going to see Aunt Ruth and her husband Uncle Joe. They were my favorites. Aunt Ruth—for making my milk blue and Uncle Joe and his dog Smoky for sharing stories with me of his times at the local race track and his experiences as a soldier in WW II overseas. As we entered her home, I could smell the wonderful smells and feel the love in the house, and the dining room table was set perfectly!  After we were all seated, Aunt Ruth came out of the kitchen with a huge platter. On it was a pink and brown piece of meat with a yellow slice of pineapple, and on top a big, red cherry. Oh my goodness, I thought. Even though as a Jewish girl I had never actually seen one up close, I knew that it was a ham, something we were never allowed to eat! We did not eat pork. Uncle Joe broke the pregnant silence.
 “Go ahead, kids, start eating.”
 We didn't dare move.
 Very slowly, Daddy put a small piece of ham on each of our plates while Aunt Ruth beamed. She was never the best of cooks, nor did she really care. She knew that Uncle Joe loved her ham. Later in the car going home, I asked Daddy why he had let us eat the ham when it was obviously not allowed.
 He said, “Aunt Ruth was to be honored. She was a fine wife and mother. Respect must be paid to such a person.”
 [Ruth, I love you forever in my soul.]

I have many fond memories of my Aunt Ruth. She would always remember to call and send me a card on my birthday and would send me postcards from wherever she would travel. I recall trips to the racetrack with her and Joe and she and I would try to pick out a winner based on how well the horses trotted. I use to enjoy exploring her house by the railroad track in Silver Spring with all of her tzotchkes and never forget her love for her little dogs especially her beloved Champ. And no family gathering would be complete without Ruth and her camera snapping away at everyone present, our family photo-journalist!
Ruth will be missed. May she rest in peace...
