S Liliana Muñoz

Ms. Muñoz was born in Guayaquil, Ecuador, the youngest daughter of Kleber and Clara Muñoz. An integral member of Columbia Road Health Services clinic for 26 years, she espoused its mission to provide quality health care regardless of an individual’s ability to pay. Personally, Ms. Muñoz was a devoted daughter, sister, aunt and mother, who despite her many ailments fought hard to overcome her daily struggles with optimism and laughter. May she rest peacefully in the arms of Jesus, for now she is free.

Those left to cherish her life include her much beloved son, Matthew Gomez; mother, Clara Muñoz; two siblings, Martha Coello and Fernando Muñoz (Cassandra); four nieces, Alexandra Shabelski (Jim), Jennifer Coello, Martha Elena Larnard (Zach), and Erica Muñoz; and three great-nieces, Audrey, Caroline, and Juliet Shabelski. She will also be thoroughly missed by her cherished family pets: Paco, Bijoux, Charlie, Lola, and Cha Cha. She is preceded in death by her father, Kleber Muñoz.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be conducted at 1:30 pm on Monday, May 23, 2016 at the Holy Trinity Catholic Church in Gainesville, VA with the Rev. Brian McAllister officiating. Pallbearers will be her son Matthew, brother Fernando, nephews Jim Shabelski and Zach Larnard, cousin Yuri Cassanello, and former spouse Edgar Gomez. Interment will follow at 3 pm on Monday at the National Memorial Park in Falls Church, VA. The family will receive friends Sunday evening from 1 pm – 5 pm at the funeral home within the National Memorial Park.

The family wishes to thank the staff of Pulmonary and Medical Associates of Northern Virginia, specifically Drs. Anthony Casolaro and Christopher Wyckoff, Virginia Hospital Center, specifically the staff of the 7th floor, and the parish of Holy Trinity Catholic Church for the loving care given to Ms. Muñoz during her final years. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests a donation to Columbia Road Health Services (www.unityhealthcare.org/HealthCenters/ServiceColumbia.html) to honor Ms. Muñoz’s desire to provide affordable healthcare to all those in need.
