Sunder Raman

Sunder Raman, beloved husband, father, grandfather, uncle, and proud American passed away peacefully on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 at UPMC Presbyterian Hospital, in Pittsburgh, PA at the age of 72, listening to 70's rock music, with his wife, son and daughter holding his hands, just the way he wanted.

Sunder was the youngest of four sons, born to Radhakrishna Jayaraman and Savitri on May 2, 1950 in Secunderabad, India. He was a proud graduate of IIT Madras, IIT Kharagpur, and American University, where he received degrees in Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering and Computer Science, respectively. His illustrious career included working at major companies starting with Glaxo in Bombay, India, The World Bank, Strategic Planning Associates, Raman Consulting Group, Sun Trust Bank, Bank of America, Ally Bank, Doral Bank and Price Waterhouse Coopers. He was also a critical advisor to and investor in PhoneX Holdings, Inc.

Sunder was an eternal optimist, seeing failures as opportunities to try harder. His enthusiasm for life was contagious and in his presence, one couldn't help but feel that anything was possible. If Sunder was your cheerleader, it was impossible not to succeed. His belief in the people he loved was the greatest gift he could give them. His family was continually amazed by the profound impact he had on the lives of those who worked for him.

Through his encouragement, support, and open-mindedness, he made it possible for his wife to start a successful business, his daughter to achieve two Master's Degrees, his son to attend Harvard Business School, three of his nephews and two nieces to build a life in America, and his four grandchildren to be whomever they want to be when they grow up.

Sunder is survived by his wife (Premila Raman); his children Shilpa Raman and Nikhil Raman; their spouses (Christian Croft and Puja Raman, respectively); his four grandchildren (Sachi and Mira Croft and Ziev and Aviva Raman) and his brother Rajaraman Jayaraman. He is predeceased by his brothers, Sai Subramanian and Raguraman Jayaraman.

Family, friends and others whose lives Sunder touched are invited to National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church, VA 22042 on Monday, April 24, 2023 from 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by a reception from 2:30 PM to 4:30 PM, to reminisce, grieve, support each other and celebrate Sunder's remarkable life.
