Susan B. Sullivan, 72, of Vienna, VA, passed away at her home on Monday, October 21, 2024 surrounded by her loved ones. She bravely fought pancreatic cancer with such resilience and unwavering strength. Susan was a beloved mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, and friend whose warmth and kindness touched the lives of all who knew her.
Susan was born on June 1, 1952 in Los Angeles, CA to Margaret Anguita and Richard Biles. Susan is survived by her two daughters Erin Sullivan and Kathryn Russo (Joe Russo), granddaughter Aubrey, and longtime partner Tommy Gros. She is also survived by sisters Cathe, Diana, Joni, and Dina, brother Robert, and countless cousins, nieces, and nephews. She is preceded in death by her parents and brothers Guy, Ron, Don, Robert, and Dante.
Susan graduated from South Pasadena High School in 1970 and traveled extensively in her 20s with her beloved yellow lab, Miss Peach (aka “Missy”). After becoming friends with members of the band Rich Mountain Tower at a ski lodge outside of Quebec, Susan traveled with the band to Florida and Tennessee. She eventually settled in Northern Virginia, where she had her two daughters with Tom Sullivan. She had a fulfilling career as an executive assistant, most recently with Serco where she retired in 2022 after 16 years.
Throughout her life, Susan had a passion for music which she shared with her family and friends. She was particularly known for hosting her famous taco nights (a recipe she’s shared with her daughters but is somehow irreplicable) and her love of gardening, good music, and red wine. Her favorite role was as grandmother to Aubrey, who affectionately named her “Nama.” Susan was anticipating another grandchild in December with great joy.
Susan never met a stranger and found the good in everyone. She was known for her genuine warmth, kind heart, and magnetic personality. Her family and loved ones will especially miss her bright smile, sharp humor, and quick laugh. Her memory will be cherished forever.
For those who would like to join, the family will be attending noon mass on Sunday, November 3, 2024 at Saint James Catholic Church in Falls Church. Susan will be remembered in the intentions for the deceased. Following mass, a reception will be held at Mylos Grill in McLean from 2 - 5pm. Please join us to celebrate the life of this beautiful woman.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org/donate) in her memory.
