Tommy was born January 18, 1943 to Haralambos and Katina Sokos in Kalamata, Greece where he learned the family's local plumbing business.
Following his time in the Greek Air Force, he emigrated to the United States in the 1960s where he began to build his own successful commercial plumbing construction company in the Washington DC metropolitan area, which his son still oversees to this day.
Even up to his final months he always found joy in his work and refused to ever retire. He could always be found tinkering away in his garage, cleaning his tools, with country music on in the background. There was never a single tool that anyone could ask to borrow that he didn’t have. The running joke on any construction site was if you need it, Tommy has it on the back of his truck! Part of what he loved about his work was meeting new people and making friends with anyone that crossed his path- but only after asking them where they were from and immediately telling them some fun fact he had learned over the years about wherever they would say.
His other passions included watching historical documentaries and following (in addition to strongly debating) politics. His favorite place to visit when he wasn’t working was Colonial Williamsburg and walking around all the landmarks. His strongest passion above all however was his family. The smile on his face when he would brag about his daughter’s career in the Virginia state senate or about his son following his legacy as the third generation of plumbers in the family was never unnoticed.
Tommy married his wife Anna Theophanous in September of 1982 and they were blessed to be able to celebrate their 38th wedding anniversary only weeks before his passing. They had a daughter, Kalliope (Kalia) and a son, Haralambos (Harry).
Tommy was preceded in death by his mother and father, and his brothers Kostas and Sotirios. He is survived by his wife and his children.
A funeral service will be held Wednesday, October 14 at 11am at St Katherines Greek Orthodox Church 3149 Glen Carlyn Rd, Falls Church, VA 22041 and is open to all friends and family who wish to attend.
