

William George Harris, age 78, passed away on April 30th, 2016 after a courageous battle with non-smokers lung cancer. He was born and raised in Santa Barbara, California and spent his adult life in Mclean, Virginia. Bill was the beloved husband of Johanna Eleonore for 52 years and a wonderful father and grandfather. He is survived by and will be sorely missed by his wife; children John William and Mark George; daughter in law Maria Alma and grandchildren Kelly Andrea and John Michael. Bill held a PHD from the University of Oregon and dedicated his career to teaching for over three decades as a professor of economics at Georgetown University. Prior to that Bill served as a Captain in the United States Army.
Bill very much enjoyed playing tennis, volley ball and bridge; he loved the outdoors and culture and traveled extensively with his wife and family to our National Parks as well as throughout the world. His passion for economics was life long and he not only was well published but was considered a foremost expert in the field. He was proud of his legacy as a professor and the fact that he touched so many young lives throughout his career. Bill was a very strong man who was always just, equitable, kind and loyal to all that met him.
The family will welcome guests at a grave-side service On Wednesday May 4th at 9:45am at the National Memorial Park Cemetery located at 7482 Lee Highway in Falls Church, Virginia. The family would like to invite those that attend the service to an early luncheon after the grave-side service.
