Dr. Yuksel Uzer

of McLean, VA and Bethany Beach, DE died March 10, 2014 at Inova Fairfax Hospital due to complications of a stroke. He is survived by his wife of 56 years, Ülgen Uzer, two sons, Matt A, Uzer M.D. (Leyla), of McLean, VA, Michael F. Uzer M.D. ( Leslie) of Chicago, IL and daughter Ayse I. Crowley ( Ken) of McLean, Va. He is also survived by eight grandchildren.

Dr. Uzer was born in Kastamonu, Turkey on August 5, 1932. After graduating from medical school at Ankara University in 1956, he moved to the United States and completed a rotating internship at Mercy Hospital in Buffalo, NY. Dr. Uzer married the love of his life, Ulgen A. Karhan in 1957 and they settled in Washington, DC. Dr. Uzer then completed a two year oncology research fellowship followed by an internal medicine residency through Georgetown University which he completed in 1962. After two years of military service in Turkey, he returned to America and settled in Springfield, VA where he began a successful private practice in 1966, ultimately retiring in 2007. Funeral Service will be held March 15, 2014 at 2:00 pm at National Funeral Home, 7482 Lee Highway, Falls Church with burial immediately following. Directions to reception for family and friends will be provided. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to National Epilepsy Foundation.
