
On Monday June 27th 2022, Filomena DeRossi Cooper, age 74, died peacefully at home, with the love of her family surrounding her. Filomena was born on August 28, 1947 in Bari, Italy, daughter of the late Maria and Mario DeRossi. Filomena graduated from Baruch College, and dedicated her career to education as an elementary school teacher for over 20 years at Lee Avenue Elementary in Hicksville. In 2015, Filomena retired and spent her time traveling and enjoying traditional Italian Sunday dinners with her large loving family Filomena’s life was dedicated to her family and friends. She has joined her beloved parents Mario and Maria in heaven. Filomena will be lovingly remembered by her children, Mellissa (Alex) Pollina, Jennifer Diaz, Andrea (James) McAuley, and Lauren (Frank) Giordano; grandchildren, Luke, Alexander, Cierra, Kade, Vanessa, Keira, Scarlet, Olivia, Farrah, Ethan, Anthony, Annalisa, Angelica, Niall, Andrew and her brother Vincent DeRossi. She will be dearly missed by her family and friends. Reposing at Arthur F. White Funeral Home, Farmingdale, Wednesday June 29th 7-9, Thursday, June 30th 2-4 and 7-9. Mass of Christian Burial at St. Ignatius Loyola Hicksville, Friday 11:15 AM, 129 Broadway, Hicksville, NY 11801. Interment to follow at Mt. St. Mary’s Cemetery, 172-00 Booth Memorial Ave, Flushing, NY 11365. As an expression of sympathy, memorial contributions may be sent to Filomena’s favorite charities, Tunnel to Towers Foundation or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital.
