
CHARLES H. “CHARLIE” JONES Charles H. Jones of Fayetteville WV, passed away on Sunday afternoon, November 30, 2014, surrounded by his family. He was 86 years old. Born January 1, 1928, he was preceded in death by Clarence and Nancy Jones; Marie McCormick; Robert Jones; and Ruth Lavinder. He was born in Minden and spent all of his days in Fayetteville where he graduated from Fayetteville High School in 1947, playing for the state tournament basketball team of '47. He would then earn an associates degree from Beckley College. He played in the Coal Field Baseball Leagues at both Kaymore and Brooklyn. He was married to his wife Barbara for 63 years. Charles, or Charlie, or "Red", made a living with his hands and his mind building homes and cabinets for many in Fayette County. He worked for Brooklyn Coal Company, Benwick Feed, Mankin Lumber Co, United Mine Workers district 29, Harvey Cabinet company, Maintenance Supervisor for the Fayette County Board of Education, Meadows Lumber Company, and ended his career as a master cabinet maker. In the later stages of life he dedicated himself to public service-twice winning election as town recorder. He was honored as State Recorder of the Year in 2009. He was a lifelong West Virginia University Mountaineer fan who would lay on the floor of his father's truck to listen to games before the family had a radio. He was a friend to every dog he ever met- often taking in strays to live in his wood shop. He is survived by his wife Barbara; his daughter Cindy Renick; his son in law Buren Renick II; his grandson Buren Renick III and his wife Colleen; his grandson Charles Daniel Renick; his nephew Robert "Butch" Jones; and his niece Terry Whitlock. A Memorial Service to be held on Saturday, December 27, 2014 at 1 PM at Grace Baptist Church, Fayetteville, with Pastor Delbert Walker officiating. In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the Fayette County Humane Society or The Salvation Army "Angel Tree".
