He graduated from Charleston High School in 1951 and graduated from West Virginia University in 1958 after having served in the US Army.
His professional career was spent with IBM and Prudential Securities. As an avid outdoorsman he enjoyed paddling, camping, and hiking along the New River.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Anne Kessler Casto.
He is survived by his daughter, Angie Casto McPhillips of Baltimore; three grandchildren: Drew McPhillips of Los Angeles, Kathleen McPhillips of Philadelphia, and Rory McPhillips Hart of Baltimore; two brothers: Robert Casto of Charleston and Terry Casto of Cross Lanes.
The will be no funeral per John’s request.
