

Born September 17,1936 to parents, Other Lee and Aldena Hoback Akers, Kay married the love of her life, Joseph Preston Phillip Sr. in 1955 after graduating from Fayetteville High School. Together they shared 60 years of blissful life together watching their children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren grow up until his passing in 2015.
Kay was a homemaker and teachers assistant in various schools throughout her life, dedicated to her community. She deeply enjoyed flowers, sewing, and cooking for her family, friends, and the congregation of Fayetteville Presbyterian Church. Throughout her life, family was a priority for Kay, especially spending time with her cherished grandchildren.
She is preceded in death by her husband, Joseph; parents, an infant sister, Camilla June Akers; a son, Joseph Preston Phillips Jr.; brothers, William “Bill” Akers and wife Doe and Mike Akers; sisters, Dorothy Baker and husband Andy, Connie Witt and husband Johnny, and Pat Cowsert and husband Lex; and son-in-law Charles McDaniels.
Left to cherish her memory include her sister-in-law, Betty Akers; children, Gordon Phillips and wife Martha, Melissa Jane McDaniels, Thomas Lee Phillips, and Jennifer Allen and husband Kenneth, as well as many beloved grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, Fayetteville, WV at 1:00 pm Wednesday, May 21, 2025. Friends and family are welcome to come for a visitation beginning at 12:00 pm. Committal services will follow in Huse Memorial Park.
