I would like to share something I wrote for my grandpas service. This man was an amazing husband, father, grandfather, brother, and son. 

My grandpa was an amazing person. I hope that I can measure up to half of the person he was. He loved his family. If we ever disappointed him, then he never let us know it. He was always proud of all of us no matter what we did. He was the best grandpa. During this hard time i replay all of the great childhood memories, fishing on the riverbank, planting skittle trees, picnics at the lake, sitting on his lap hearing him tell jokes, and one of my favorites is no matter what every time he came to see us kids he would have candy hidden in his flannel shirtÂ  pocket. We were so excited when we seen him, we would rush over to see what he had broughtÂ  us. It breaks my heart that my children will not have these same memories. Ive realized over the past couple of days how grateful he was. He never talked about wanting anything different then what he had. He was happy with his friends and family, being able to hunt and fish, for his home, and most of all his marriage. His love for my grandmother was enough to make anyone jealous for she was his whole world. He never left without telling her he loved her.Â  My grandma told me that she wasn't angry. That my grandpa loved all of his family and now he gets to spend time with the ones in heaven. This is how I will try to think of everything too because there's not a doubt in my mind that my grandpa is looking down from heaven grateful for everyone who came out to remember him and be with his family.

Thoughts and prayers to the family. Sherri your dad always had a smile on his face every time I seen him.

Shirley was always the same, always smiling and never had a bad thing to say about anyone. He never missed a family reunion. I enjoyed talking to him every time I saw him. I am glad I got to see him more often the last couple of years.He will be missed. LOVE AND PRAYERS to Garnet, Jen and your family.

I can remember spending much of my childhood with the Adkins family. They treated me just like another family member. They are in my thoughts and prayers.

Shirley was around all the time I was growing up A good person and he will sadly missed     Alice and Kathy and JoAn Miller

Shirley will be greatly missed.  He had become close almost like another brother to me.  Garnet (his wife) and the rest of the family will be in our prayers during this time and after.  May God ease your pain and give you the assurance you will see him again.

Very fortunate to have known Shirley. When ever we met we never failed to talk about fishing,hunting and his granddaughter Jennifer. Very few good people left in this world like him. I will truly miss those talks we had. May God bless his family and ease the pain in their hearts. Rest In Peace Slim. Forever a friend .

Shirley will be greatly missed.  He will always hold a very special place in my heart.  Great man.
