Winston R. O'Neal

Winston R. O'Neal, a devoted servant of the Lord, loving husband, father, and pastor, passed away peacefully on January 17, 2025. He was preceded in death by his siblings, brothers: Wheeler Jr., Roger, Daniel, Kimberton, and Richard; and sisters: Phyllis, Margaret, Olive, Helena, Bernice, Rosemary, Elizabeth, Betty, and Doris.

Winston's life was marked by his unwavering faith and dedication to sharing the love of Christ. A high school football star who married his beautiful homecoming queen, Martha. They enjoyed 68 years of marriage filled with love and devotion. Together, they raised a family rooted in faith and service.

In 1972, Winston gave his life to the Lord and soon felt the calling to ministry. He served as pastor at Lansing Baptist Church, Cunard Baptist Church, Gatewood Baptist Church, and retired from Bethel Baptist Church. Throughout his ministry, he touched countless lives with his wisdom, compassion, and commitment to spreading God’s word. Winston was also known for his entrepreneurial spirit, founding a successful business in 1978, where he worked tirelessly to provide for his family and community.

Winston is survived by his wife, Martha; children, Theresa Cocheran (Bill), Winston "Clyde" O'Neal (Amy), Karen Miller (Andy), Helen Milam (Ron), and Tracy Taylor (Darryl); 14 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great-grandchild; brother Randal; sister, Janet; and his beloved Dachshund, “Pepper.” His legacy of faith, love, and service will live on in the hearts of his family, friends, and all who had the privilege of knowing him.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Bowers Hospice House or Grace Baptist Church of Fayetteville, WV, to honor Winston’s commitment to faith and service.

Funeral services will be Tuesday, January 21, 2025 at 1:00 P.M. at Dodd-Payne-Hess Funeral Home, 350 West Maple Ave, Fayetteville, WV with his grandson, Caleb O'Neal officiating. Visitation will be one hour prior to services. He will be laid to rest in Pleasant View Cemetery, Fayetteville, WV.
