Bertie Sargis

Born on July 28, 1940, in Chicago, Illinois, she was the beloved daughter of the late Charles and Bertha Horvath. Bertie graduated from Notre Dame High School for Girls in Chicago in 1958. Over the years, she dedicated herself to a variety of roles in both public service and the private sector.

Bertie had a long and respected career as a Legal Assistant, most notably with Michael Morrisroe & Associates in Bloomingdale, Illinois. Her commitment to her community was evident through her two elected terms serving Bloomingdale Township Clerk. She also contributed her talents to the Village of Bloomingdale, the Bloomingdale Park District, and later worked with Allison Boscovich State Farm in Ormond Beach.

A woman of many interests, Bertie enjoyed crossword puzzles, Sudoku, and golfing. Her quick wit, kind spirit, and love for life left a lasting impression on all who knew her.

She was preceded in death by her son, Dennis Rivkin. Bertie is survived by her loving husband of 48 years, Jim Sargis; her children, Daniel Rivkin, David (Jessica) Rivkin, Don (Jennifer) Rivkin, Denise Anria, and Dominic (Cassie) Rivkin; her stepchildren, Eric (Blair) Sargis and Matthew Sargis; and her cherished grandchildren: Angeline, Dennis, Aiden, Julia, Max, Nicole, Alexis, Samantha, Landon, Shiloh, and Violet. She is also survived by her brother, Steve Horvath, along with many loving relatives, dear friends, and her church family.

A memorial service will be held at Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church in Palm Coast on July 26th, 2025, 11:00AM. In lieu of flowers, donations in Bertie’s memory may be made to Shepherd of the Coast Lutheran Church.

She will be deeply missed and fondly remembered for the warmth, wisdom, and laughter she brought to the lives of those around her.
