

CALVIN VINCENT HUGHES
Calvin Vincent Hughes was born in Brooklyn, New York to the late Vincent Hughes and the late Aurora (Moore) Hughes. He was the second child born of this union and his father passed away when Calvin was only 2 years old. Calvin was educated in Brooklyn, New York at the Boys High School where he received his diploma. He was voted the most handsome in his Senior class and best known amongst his peers as ‘dimples’.
Calvin proudly served his country in the Unites States Army from December 1945 to December 1946. He fought in World War II and was stationed in Hiroshima, Japan and the Phillippines Islands and received an Honorable Discharge. He studied Auto Mechanics during his time in the Military and he had a gift for fixing electrical items.
Calvin met and married his beautiful bride, the late Gloria (Jenkins) Hughes on May 21, 1949. From this union four children were born: Deborah Cheryl, Kevin Sheldon, Keith Vincent and Alan Brian.
Calvin worked for the City of New York in the capacity of Kings County Hospital Ambulance, Transit Authority Bus Driver and many years as a New York City Correction Officer. He was dedicated, exemplifying excellent work ethics. He displayed hard work and drove New York City Taxi Cabs for extra income to provide for his children’s elementary private school education. He then retired in 1982.
He attended Concord Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York prior to relocating to Laurelton, (Queens) New York. He traveled with his wife on several occasions with the Morris Cerullo Evangelistic Team. The couple later relocated to Palm Coast, Florida in 1992 and started a new life enjoying their retirement years meeting new friends, joining organizations and attending Christian functions. Calvin attended Calvary Assembly in Ormond Beach, Florida where he confessed Jesus Christ as his Personal Saviour. After a couple of recent hospitalizations, God called Calvin into eternal rest.
Calvin is preceeded in death by his loving wife Gloria (Jenkins) Hughes, son: Keith Hughes and sister: Thelma Nero, and leaves to cherish his memories, his beloved children, Deborah Cheryl Asoro Ebose (Kelvin), Kevin Sheldon Hughes (Michele), Alan Brian Hughes (Nateesh), five grandchildren: Alyssa Holloway, Khadijah Hughes, Sean Hughes, Collette Jackson and Kenion Hughes, greatgrands: Alyssa Hughes, Joell Patterson, Camille Holloway and Brielle Jackson, niece: Michele Nero and a host of nieces, nephews and dear friends.
