Frances Mary Chiodo (nee Winterberg) was received into heaven on Monday August 23, 2021 with her family by her side. Born December 22, 1945, Fran grew up in Willow Grove, PA surrounded by a large extended family. She was preceded in death by her father, Samuel J. Winterberg and her mother, Mary Winterberg. Fran is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Peter T. Chiodo, her children Kristine, Peter Jr. (Karen), Michael (Michelle, fiancee) and Jon (Melanie); her grandchildren Adrian, Caitlin, Ryan, Madison, Chase and Jadyn (soon to be); and her siblings Maryanne, Terri, Chip, Jim and Tom.
Always with a smile on her face, Fran brightened every room she entered. Working with senior citizens at Hope House in NJ, Fran’s nurturing spirit comforted countless people in her care. A resident of Palm Coast, FL for 24 years, Fran was very active in the Grand Haven Women’s Club and the Philanthropic Educational Organization. Always willing to lend a hand, Fran often took on leadership roles in various service activities within these groups. Fran also enjoyed golfing, bridge, Mah Jong, Bunko, and Hand and Foot. Whether in the karaoke bar on a cruise or at a holiday party, Fran was often entertaining others with her beautiful voice. She will always be remembered for her stunning renditions of Patsy Cline’s “Crazy” and “Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree”. A lifelong Catholic, Fran was a member of Santa Maria del Mar Catholic Church. An avid traveler, Fran enjoyed many trips with her family and friends. She always loved her annual family stay at the “McFitzberg” house on 58th St in Ocean City NJ. Among her favorite more exotic experiences were cruising the Mediterranean and visiting Pompeii, Paris, Barcelona and Hawaii. Fran could also often be found in the casinos with her sister, Terri, in Atlantic City or Las Vegas.
Inspired by the example of her amazing parents, family was foremost in Fran’s life. Holidays played a special role in her life, sharing most with a multitude of aunts, uncles and cousins. Even as her family spread throughout the east coast, Fran could always be heard saying, “Distant in miles, close at heart.”
The family will receive friends from 10am-11am at St. Elizabeth Ann Seton Catholic Church with a Funeral Mass at 11 am, Monday, August 30, 2021 followed by a reception at the Grand Haven Community Center. The family requests that all in attendance please wear a mask. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to St Jude’s Children’s Research Hospital.
