George A. Del Monte, Jr., 82, of Palm Coast, FL, passed away peacefully at the Stuart F. Meyer Hospice House on May 2, 2022. He was born on May 1, 1940 in Glens Falls, NY to the late George and Mary Del Monte. He earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Villanova University and a Master’s in Business Administration from Columbia University, then went on to serve in the United States Air Force during the Vietnam War. Upon his honorable discharge, he spent his working career employed as a traffic manager in the tire and trucking industries, and as a certified financial planner. He later transitioned to employment in NJ state government, where he worked many years in the corporate taxation department until his retirement.
In his younger years George was an avid cyclist, enjoying long rides on back roads and participating in several Century rides. He enjoyed photography, often entering his favorite photos in local exhibits and art shows, and he loved flying his kites on the beach. He was a lifelong gardener, and loved tending to his trees, flower bulbs and roses, and after moving to sunny Palm Coast in 2004, he fell in love with orchids. He enjoyed learning how to grow them and was an active member of the local orchid society. He will always be remembered by family and friends for his dry and witty sense of humor, his love of hockey and the Boston Red Sox and his “famous” family spaghetti sauce, which he spent many years perfecting.
George is survived by his wife of 58 years, Carolyn; daughter Liz and her husband, Eric Bragança, and their children Carolyn, Nicholas and his wife Maddy, and Christopher Bragança; daughter Susan and her husband, Ron Sciandra, and their children, Allegra, Carly and Andrew Sciandra; sisters Mary and Lillian Del Monte, and many more loving relatives and wonderful friends.
