

Jane (Janina Magrys) (Brostovski) Gomolka, age 88, of Palm Coast, Florida, passed away peacefully in her home surrounded by her loving family on April 28, 2018. She was born on February 2, 1930 in Horyslawice, Poland to the late Wladislaw and Stanislawa (Stafa) Magrys. She had four sisters, Emilia, Helen, Maria, and Stasia, and one brother, Stanley, all predeceased her. At age 10, during WWII, she and her family were forced to Siberia. After the war, they were relocated to a refugee camp in India. At age 17, she accepted an opportunity to come to America to finish high school at Mount Alvernia Orphanage in Reading, PA. She attended college at Chestnut Hill College, PA. After marrying Zislav Brostovski, also a survivor of WWII, and raising four children in Colonia, NJ, she finished her college education at Newark State College, NJ and became an elementary school teacher. Always proud of her Polish heritage, she loved to teach Polish. She established a Polish supplementary school in Clark, NJ, and later during her retirement years in Florida, was an active and honorary member of the Polonia Society of Korona. Twelve years after the death of her first husband, Jane married Marion Gomolka and they retired to Verona Island, ME during the summer and Bunnell, FL during the winter. After the death of her second husband, she moved to Palm Coast, FL. She spent many happy years with her sister, Maria Nieski, and more recently with her companion of 5 years, Charles Podbielski, who passed away in March of 2018. Jane was a cheerful, kind, generous, positive, energetic, strong, independent, hard-working, religious woman who always thought of, cared for, and did for others. She enjoyed gardening, reading, walking on the beach, going to dances, playing 500 Rummy with her sister, and staying involved in the Polonia Society club. She was an active parishioner of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bunnell, FL. She was dearly loved by her family and friends, and just about everyone she came in contact with due to her sunny, sweet, and gentle nature. Jane is survived by four children: Henry Brostovski (wife Lisa) of California, Janet Turk (husband Nick Corral) of Virginia, Christopher Brostovski (wife Robin) of Virginia, Maria Brostovski (companion Pieter Quackenbush) of New Jersey; eight grandchildren: Joseph, Steven, Adam, Vanessa, Andrew, Kristen, Bryan, Noah; five great-grandchildren: Sophie, Michael, Zoey, Jedediah, Matthew; six step-children: Laurie Gomolka, Ronnie Thomas (husband Craig), Celeste Davis (husband Rick), Steve Gomolka, Gary Gomolka (wife Missy), Ellen Rodney (husband Tom); two step-grandchildren: Ryan, Sarah, (Eric predeceased); sister-in-law: Sister Mary Gomolka (Dolly); and many nieces and nephews. There will be a funeral mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Bunnell, FL on Tuesday, May 8th, 1:00PM. Interment of ashes will be at a later date at St. Gertrude Catholic Cemetery in Colonia, NJ. Arrangements are in the care and trust of Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, Crematory and Memorial Gardens.
