Janice “Jenny” Reiter Martin was born Dec 8, 1942 in Newark NJ during WWII. She was the first of three children born to Hilda and Martin Reiter, growing up in a family of very modest means. After high school, she entered the work force at Western Electric/Lucent Technologies/AT&T, and retired after 40 years of service. She was a trail blazer, as an independent single woman, working her way up the management chain and also buying her own home at a time when it was difficult for a woman to borrow money/have their own credit.
Janice was married to Thomas Villano, which ended in divorce. She met and married Gene Martin and they were together over 35 years. Gene predeceased her 10 years ago.
Janice was a doer. Once she got an idea in her head, off she went and it was done. She loved music, dancing, art, food, shopping, traveling and most of all people. After retirement she tried line dancing and began teaching it when she moved to Florida. She was also a member of the Dixie Girls, a local line dancing troupe who volunteered to perform at nursing homes and other venues. She was an active member of the Italian American Club in Palm Coast, Florida where she ran the monthly Pot of Gold raffle, volunteered on many committees and was an active participant in the dinner dances and other festivities the club offered. She had a vast network of friends from all aspects of her life. She loved to talk, having a great gift of gab and stayed in touch with so many over the years.
She is survived by brother Arnold Reiter, his wife Sherie, their children Devin Reiter and wife Jocelyn Orloff and son Micah, Dara Henrickson and her husband Garrett and their son Noah, sister Gloria Harris and her daughter Sara Siegel and her husband Zack and their son Miles and daughter Willow. She is also survived by her step children, Danny Martin, Valerie Martin, and Linda Boutillier. She was a wonderful Aunt to her nieces and nephews and great nieces and nephews and Step Mother/Step Grandmother to Gene’s children and grandchildren.
