Jerry David Sweet was born in Tazewell, Tennessee, on December 18, 1947, to Herman and Catherine Sweet. He was received into the arms of Jesus on February 23, 2025 at 11:43 P.M. after a long, hard fight with complications from heart surgery. He was resilient until the very last minute, after everything his body went through, pushing himself to let his family know he loved them one last time.
Jerry grew up in Tazewell, where he was the 7th of 8 children, but spent most of his adult life in Palatka, Florida, where he was a successful used car dealer. He spent most of his days at Scruggs Motor Company or at a various car auction around the area. He was well known and beloved among the car sales community. He was very passionate about cars and trucks, could tell you things about them you didn't know, and would always give you his opinion. He loved going to the Turkey Rod Run every year with his children and grandchildren. He was a devoted and loving father, grandfather and friend. Jerry was loyal to a fault and would give you the shirt off his back. If he was your friend, he was your friend until the end. Jerry was saved at a young age, but rededicated his life to the Lord four years ago and never missed a chance to tell any and everyone about Jesus and how to be saved.
Jerry was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Michael "Hop", Norman and Larry Joe Sweet; one sister, Barbara Sweet.
Jerry is survived by his daughter, Tammy (Tim) Goan, and son, Jeremy (Yun) Sweet. Grandchildren, Khristin (Chris) Grosjean; Kaitlin (Ben) Collins; Jeremiah (Daryn) Sweet; Kameron Goan; Eli Sweet; Kolton Goan; Ada Mei Sweet. Great-grandchildren, Harper Goan; Slater Collins; Aiden Grosjean. Brothers, Jim (Betty Dean) Sweet; Bud (Joyce) Sweet; Fred (Carolyn) Sweet. Nephew, Gary (Christine) Sweet. Chosen brothers, Jim Hatfield; Joe Scruggs (Dottie); Michael Bo Griner; Scotty Brooks; Mitchell "Ham" Seals. As well as a host of other relatives and many friends.
The family would like to extend a special thank you to Terri Potts for all the support, prayers and friendship she provided, especially during these last trying months.
The family will receive friends at Masters Funeral Home in Palatka, FL, on Thursday, February 27, 2025 from 5:00 until 8:00 P.M. Another visitation as well as funeral and graveside services will be held at Coffey Funeral Home in New Tazewell, TN, arrangements pending.
In Lieu of Flowers, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude's Children's Hospital, Tommy Bates Ministries, or Jimmy Swaggart Ministries, in honor of Jerry who donated to these three faithfully and proudly.
