

Joseph Martin Hanlon, Jr., always known as “Marty”, aged 84, of Toms River, NJ, formerly of Palm Coast, FL and Oradell, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, March 8, 2024. Marty was retired from private industry in 2000 with American Paper Towel Corp., a subsidiary of Georgia-Pacific. He began his career as a police officer for the Borough of Oradell for ten years. He was a dedicated volunteer fireman (exempt status) for the Borough of Oradell for forty years as #44. He served in many capacities including rising through the ranks to Chief as well as serving on its Executive Board. He was an avid fisherman and an accomplished photographer. At family gatherings, Marty would always be found holding one of the many babies in the family.
Marty was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph and Helen Hanlon. He lost the love of his life, his wife Bobbie, after fifty-seven years of marriage in 2018. Marty is survived by his three children and their spouses/partners, Deborah (Scott), Joseph (Carrie) and Robert (Tracy). He was blessed with six grandchildren, Matthew, Justin, Amanda, Skylar, Aiden and Gavin, all of whom he adored and was so proud of their accomplishments big and small. He also received the amazing gift of three great-granddaughters, Starla, Luna and Siena Rose. He was also blessed with special little ones who were just like grandchildren, Oliver, Holden, Wyatt, Rory and Emerson. Marty is also survived by his brother John Hanlon and longtime friend Susan, and his sister, Barbara Shaw and her husband Horace, nieces and nephews including Melissa, Andrea, Gregory (Michelle) and Lauren (Michael) as well as many cousins and friends who held a special place in his heart.
The family will receive guests at Becker Funeral Home, 219 Kinderkamack Rd., Westwood, NJ on Friday, March 15th from 1-6PM. Joseph's funeral services at Craig-Flagler Palms Funeral Home, 511 Old Kings Road S., Flagler Beach, FL., March 30, 2024 1:00 PM with a committal service at Flagler Memorial Gardens in Flagler Beach, FL to follow.
