Kevin graduated from Gonzaga High School in Washington, DC, in 1969 and went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Mount St. Mary’s University in Emmitsburg, Maryland. He began a 30-year career in management with Safeway grocery stores before retiring at the youthful age of fifty-two. In 2003, Kevin and his wife, Dotty, relocated to South Florida.
Kevin was a man who truly embraced the joy of life. He had a deep passion for deep-sea fishing, playing golf, and watching sports of all kinds. A devoted golfer, he enjoyed working part-time at several golf courses during his years in Florida.
Kevin was a beloved presence among family and friends, known for his warm welcome, generous spirit, and quick sense of humor. He had a gift for making others feel at ease and formed lasting connections wherever life took him.
Kevin was preceded in death by his wife, Dorothy (“Dotty”) Horan, in 2016; his sister, Karen McClinton, also in 2016; his nephew Patrick Horan, in 2006; and Dotty’s daughter, Marianne Stakem, in September 2025. He is survived by his mother, Shirley D. Horan; his brother, Tom Horan, and his wife, Libby; his nieces and nephews, Tim and Ryan Horan, Katherine McClinton, and Dan McClinton; his son-in-law, Marty Stakem; his grandchildren, Ricky Stakem and Ali Stakem and her husband, Dyson White; and his great-grandchild, Franco White. He is also survived by Jan Gillen-Bryden, his devoted partner of eight years at the time of his passing. Jan selflessly cared for Kevin during the latter years of his life as his health declined. He also leaves behind seven first cousins and a host of cherished friends whose lives he touched deeply over the years.
A memorial service in his memory will be celebrated in the future in Maryland.
