Marvin was born in Daytona Beach, Fl on November 14, 1935 to his parents Marcus Carlton Strickland and Sadie Stone Strickland. He was raised in Favoretta and graduated from Bunnell High School where he was a tremendous athlete. Marvin then made a living by working the family farm doing cattle and logging. He met his wife Betty Jo at church and they were married on September 22, 1962.
Marvin enjoyed life and was always on the go, never sitting still. He raced dirt bikes and raced cars down on Daytona Beach, played all kinds of sports, he enjoyed racquetball and golf as well. He sang in the church choir and drove the church bus for many years. Marvin made his annual trips to antique car shows, the mountains to eat at all the great restaurants and snow skiing. He enjoyed festivals, mostly to try different foods, and he liked going to see good gospel music concerts. Going to the gym was a daily activity for him that he also used as his social hour. Antique cars and trucks, St. Augustine, tractors, parades, sweets, feeding his turkeys and deer, and family were some of his favorite things. Marvin made friends wherever he went and was known for his kindness and making people smile. The most important thing was that he was always involved. From being there for his boys in all things to showing up and not missing anything with his grandchildren to making a point to connect and spend time daily with his great grandchildren. His presence will be missed greatly and the memories he made will be engraved in the minds of the people he loved and the lives he touched.
Marvin is preceded in death by his wife Betty Jo Strickland, his parents Marcus and Sadie Strickland, his sisters Chris Deal, Wilda Hargett, Odell Clegg and his brother Jr. Strickland.
He is survived by his sons Shannon (Angie) Strickland, Stephen (Angel) Strickland, and Swayne Strickland all of Bunnell. He leaves behind nine grandchildren, Colton Strickland, Courtney (Josh) Ness, Kennedy Strickland, Kate (Jordan) Gerlach, Savannah, Saige, Skyler, Maverick and Macklan Strickland all of Bunnell. His legacy continues with 7 great grandchildren, Kolby and Kendall Strickland, Malachi, Micah, Sadie and Seth Ness and Breck Gerlach. Marvin leaves behind many loved nieces and nephews as well.
