Robert "Bob" Lee Young

Mr. Young was born May 7, 1944 in Portsmouth, Virginia, the son of Martha Louise Hancock (Wright) & Clifford “Bud” Hancock.

At a young age he moved to Huntington, West Virginia, and graduated from Barboursville High School. Following his graduation, he enlisted in the United States Army. He served in Saigon during the Viet Nam War, and was later stationed in Darmstadt Germany. He received the National Defense Service Medal, Overseas Service Bars; Republic of Vietnam Campaign Medal; 3 Good Conduct Medals and the Army Commendation Medal. He then was stationed to Ft. Richardson in Anchorage, Alaska, where he worked as the Housing Administrator. After his retirement from the Army, he had the same job, but as a member of the Civil Service. After living in Alaska, he and his wife moved to Fayetteville, Georgia where they loved for 37 years before moving to Palm Coast in 2017. Mr. Young enjoyed woodworking, hunting, genealogy, and light houses. He was a scholar of the Bible, which he enjoyed teaching, and studied Greek and Latin. He enjoyed spending time with his family, and especially attending his grandchildren’s activities.

He is survived by his wife of 58 years, the former Ruth Ann Langham whom he married February 9, 1963. Two daughters, Laurana (Fred) Atwood, and Stephanie Coleman. Five grandchildren, Madison Reneé Atwood; Isaac Robert Atwood; Joshua Michael Olivo; Montana Skye Coleman, and Thomas “Jager” Coleman. One brother, Carl “Butch” (Waylene) Young. Three sisters, Lindalee Wright, Betty Hatfield, and Sandy Harmon.

A memorial service celebrating the life of Bob will be on September 25, 2021 starting at 3pm with a fellowship & food to follow, at the Fayette County Chamber of Commerce, 600 W. Lanier Ave, Suite 205, Fayetteville, GA 30214.
