As a young man Ron served in the United States Air Force as an Air Traffic Controller during the Vietnam Conflict. Upon his honorable discharge from the Air Force he began the first part of his lengthy professional career at Logan International Airport in Boston, Massachusetts as an Air Traffic Controller and then for the second part of his career he worked as a Quality Control Analyst at the Department of Defense in nuclear weapons in Wilmington and Boston Massachusetts from which he retired.
Ron and his beloved Maurine shared close-knit families and friends. Their first real conversation was when they both happened to show up alone at a screening of the movie “Endless Love” and thus began their blossoming friendship. Ron was an extraordinarily devoted husband. Everyone who knew them could see that Ron adored Maurine and she him. He was also a devoted father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather and beloved son, brother, uncle, cousin and friend.
While maintaining a home in Massachusetts, Ron and Maurine moved to Palm Coast, Florida in 2001 to enjoy many land and sea adventures together and with a wonderful group of friends, as well as visiting family.
Ron’s long-time love of the water brought the couple to the Palm Coast Yacht Club and the Marine Trawler Owners Association. Ron made great friends among the members of the boating community. He was quick to offer a smile, a helping hand or a seat aboard his boat.
Ron and Maurine’s 40-foot Carver, “Quality Time” lived up to her name. Ron was an extraordinary Captain and was always happy at the helm of his boat. “Quality Time” was often considered the Mother Ship at Yacht Club events because friends were always welcomed.
Ron also loved cars, whether it was repairing them or watching his nephews race or admiring them. He also held his private pilot’s license and flew small aircraft. Friends will miss his compassion, his integrity and his intelligence, as well as his humble spirit.
Ron is the beloved husband of Maurine Murphy; devoted father of son, Karl Murphy and daughter, Nicole Drinnon; proud grandfather of Brian, Sean and Gage; great-grandfather of Kanyon, River, Aiden, Canaan, Maison, Ki’ara and Dallas.
