

SCHAFFER, Teresa – of Flint, age 51, passed away Friday, February 17, 2012 at Hurley Medical Center, after a 17 year battle with breast cancer. Funeral services will be held 11 a.m. Tuesday, February 21, 2012 at St. John Vianney Catholic Church, 2415 Bagley Street, Flint, MI with Fr. Thomas Firestone officiating. Burial follows at New Calvary Catholic Cemetery. Visitation 6-8 p.m. Sunday and 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. Monday at Reigle Funeral Home, 5501 W. Pierson Road, Flushing, MI where the Rosary will be prayed 7 p.m. Monday. Visitation 10 a.m. Tuesday at the church. Teresa was born in Flint, MI on May 31, 1960 the daughter of Frank and Sophie Matsco. She graduated from the Hurley Medical School of Nursing and was an R.N. She also has a Bachelor’s Degree from the University of Michigan. Teresa married Jim Schaffer on July 27, 1979 at St. Luke Catholic Church. She and her husband own the Posie Patch. Teresa is a member of the Michigan State Master Gardener’s Association, and was a volunteer at New Life Women’s Center, Genesee Free Medical Clinic, and St. John Vianney Catholic Church, and served on the SJV Christian Service Commission. In her free time, she enjoyed needlepoint, quilting, and scrapebooking. Teresa was also an avid hiker and loved to travel to the National Parks. Surviving are: husband, Jim Schaffer of Flint; daughters, Sarah Schaffer of Lansing and Lauren Schaffer of Auburn Hills; brothers and sister, Mark Matsco of Monaca, PA, Cindy Matsco of Flushing, Charles Matsco of Clio, and mother, Sophie Matsco of Flint.
